The Idea of Re-Envision – Vitra Design Library

As the inspiration of the complex shape buy unite in function of building from the original Vitra Design Museum building by Frank Owen Gehry, the new idea is bought down to the re-envision model which transformed into a local place that provides the source of knowledge to people of all ages – A Public Library.

The re-envision model is designed based on the combination of idea from the original Vitra Design Museum building and with one another great building such “Guggenheim Museum Museum Bilbao”. In terms of its function, the re-envision model remains the main function which relate to people. As museums are the places of publicity and so as library. However the great changes are bought into the design as well, such as the spaces in the building, material being used and the new location of the Vitra Design Library.

The Vitra Design Library has the exterior structure that maintains the cross shape of original building as well as the curvy shape on the side. Considering being a library, the building needs to provide a huge amount of light into the building as well as the section of room which will have different function. The chosen of using the glass wall will satisfy that fact. Glass wall allows light to go thought most of spaces in the library. However having huge amount of light can cause other problem such as heat and maintenances therefore material and sectioning will be significant in this case. In the space where light is not important as much such as discussion room, study room and computer room the glass wall will not be placed in the area.

Focusing on the location, inspired by the “Guggenheim Museum Museum Bilbao” by Frank Owen Gehry, the Vit5ra Design Library will be placed near and almost surrounded by water. This idea is brought from the idea of the illusion of building floating on water like a ship. The re-envision model will be placed away from the build environment. As it will be a place of peace which will allow people to maximise the concentration into their studies of even to be relax from the busy environment in the same time.

The interior

Following the concept of public library, the design of the re-envision is applied to the inner space of the building – The interior site. Firstly, the main point will be the light that goes through different spaces in building also the different amount of light in different area. Secondly the structure that will contains a large space along well with the section of rooms for different activities.

As people entering through the front door, the first impression would be the large space that contains a lot of bookshelf with is being placed neatly along with the sections of room that provided according its function.

The building contains two levels. The first floor has the bookshelf as well as the rooms that are sectioned for different purposes. There will only one set of stairs for the visitors to go to the second level as this area will contain only bookshelf and some studied table. The reason of having only one set of stairs is that small amount of visitor is expected to go to second level.

The exterior

The exterior part of the Vitra Design Library is designed to fit into the function of building. It is less complex and gives the good illusion in the same time. Glass wall and material being used outside will give the great impression to the visitors.

The re-envision model looks like it is being wrap by the curvy shape where the cross shape is places at the top and middle of the building. Glass wall will be the significant part that unites the building. With the metal structure and glass will give the great looking result when the light shines on to the glass wall.

In summary, the features which are applied into the building had paid most attention in the amount of light and the function of building. Larges spaces and room section will satisfy the purpose of the building as a public library which full of style and idea.

Task to be completed for week 11 : A3 Expressive Montage of Idea

A3 Expressive Montage of Idea

This montage of idea present the main material that will be significant to the desing of my re-inventing building - Vitra Design Libraly. This new re-inventing will take out the outstanding material bing used in one of the greatest architecture in the world, The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao by Frank Gehry. The material will be mainly used in the new model as well as the glass wall structure that wil be added into the libraly as I want to bring more light into the model.

Base on the research on the selected case study building. The main influence idea would be the use of material and glass wall structure which I will apply to my Vitra Design Libraly. As well as the concept of being open to publicity that will be carried out.
