Task to be completed for week 11 : A3 Expressive Montage of Idea

A3 Expressive Montage of Idea

This montage of idea present the main material that will be significant to the desing of my re-inventing building - Vitra Design Libraly. This new re-inventing will take out the outstanding material bing used in one of the greatest architecture in the world, The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao by Frank Gehry. The material will be mainly used in the new model as well as the glass wall structure that wil be added into the libraly as I want to bring more light into the model.

Base on the research on the selected case study building. The main influence idea would be the use of material and glass wall structure which I will apply to my Vitra Design Libraly. As well as the concept of being open to publicity that will be carried out.

Task to be completed for week 11 studio : Textures

TEXTURES

Texture 1 - Glass wall - Warm (http://www.cgtextures.com/texview.php?id=19825&PHPSESSID=b547eb19554e72d675981d498bc63b08)

Week 10 Task : Model in progress

The following images show the pregression of the model re-inventing of Vitra Design Museum...I designed to keep the main structure of the original building. However the spaces and material being used will be different. As a library there will be more main space to place bookself and table. Some rooms are divided for discussion room or study room. Glass wall is also added into the model and is the significant structure that allows an amount of light to go into the building..

Groud floor - showing section being devided...

The model is bought down to low complexity. However the interior part will be in great details....to show the idea of Glass wall being influences to building and related to the rest of the space...

Week 10 task: Further Research on Guggenheim Museum

Sketches expressing initial ideas....

Initial ideas of Gehry were expressed through simple pen and paper. Gehry presents the contents of the building such as basic structure, interaction to environment and its butural form context. These sketches help him bring out the further ideas drawn to the further design and structure. Diferent ideas and designs were conducted throuht these sketches then were brought into the current building. Comparing the initail sketches and the building, we can see that he kept the significant shape of the building which is the ship-like structure and develop through out the concept.

Plans ...

The plan and sectional plan is to show the structure and site of the building...

Images emphasising the material and interaction with environment...

Images above show the relationship between the building and its environment. Focusing on the material being used, the building itself interact with the environment by reflecting the light which make the building seem to be changeable in colour in different period of time.

Material also shows the contrast between the structure of the building and the type of material being used. There are many different materials including stainless steel, copper and aluminium were used in the building. Which makes a huge contrast to its structure which contain in organic form of shape. Steel material, in general term represents the strongness and tough feeling to the building however the organic shape represents the sense of sensational feeling. At this point the building has successfully present the two different ideas and combine it in a perfect piece of architecture.

Task to be completed for week 10 studio : Re-inventing the Vitra Design Museum

Re-inventing the Vitra Design Museum (150 words)

The re-inventing of the Vitra Design Museum is based on the research of Ghery’s work. Re-inventing is all about new ideas being applied to the building. However I would like to keep the idea of how building related to people, in this case being connected to publicity. The Vitra Design Museum, in term of its function, will be transformed into local public library space as well as being a piece of art work which represents the sense of organic structure. Some changes will be applied to the building to fit into its new function and structure. The Vitra Library contains large space and also section of rooms. The most important part is the quantity of light. Glsses will be used mostly in the building. As being a space for public, the re-inventing version building may be scale up to increase in spaces. The great changes will be the interior part as the funtion of the building is fully changed.

Task to be completed for week 10 studio : Case Study

Case study : Guggenheim Museum by Frank Gehry...

Image1
Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao is a modern and contemporary art museum located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. It is one of several museums of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. And it was the most often mentioned architect in 1998-1999. It was designed by Canadian-American architect Frank Gehry with the structure of architectural firm. It is opened to the public in 1997, immediately vaulted to prominence as one of the world's most spectacular buildings in the style of Deconstructivism. For this great architecture, the composition continues a curvaceous, free-form sculptural style that has become a Gehry signature. The museum's design and construction serve as an object lesson in Frank Gehry's style and method. Like much of Gehry's other work, the structure consists of radically sculpted, organic contours; the Guggenheim Bilbao claims that it does not have a single flat surface in the entire structure. The galleries are organized on three levels around the central atrium, and are interconnected by curving walkways suspended from the roof, glass elevators and winding spiral stair cases. It is a spectacular vision, almost a city with in a city, and truly among the best art tourism Spain has to offer.

Image 3
The museum’s design and structure help to accentuate the style of Gehry, with structures which consists of excessively sculpted, organic contours. Visualisation, one of the main focus points of this architecture brings out the main intention of this building, to resemble a ship. As the building surrounded by water, it creates a connection of the building to the environment. By the structure and design of the building, it seems that this building is also can be called a piece of art work rather than just a museum. The building has defined the organic structure which has a great contrast in its own materials being used. Stainless steel and titanium are the main materials which are used. The materials had brought the great effect into the building. The materials successfully bring out the idea of organically form of the building as it goes along well in all the curve of the building. With a unique style and outstanding material this building then become one of the great pieces of architect in the world. Again it is successfully satisfied its purpose as a museum and in the same time being a great piece of art that represent organic contours of the building.
